The Great British Food Fight @ Channel 4

今日、Channel 4のThe Great Brisith Food Fightという番組が始まった。２週間にわたって、イギリスのセレブリティ・シェフ４人が、イギリスの食を改善するために戦う。初回の「Big Chef Takes On Little Chef」は今日から水曜日まで3日連続で放送。最も若くしてミシュランの三つ星を獲得したシェフの一人で、The Fat Duck（ファットダック）のオーナーシェフ、Heston Blumenthal（ヘストン・ブルーメンタール）が登場（写真の一番右端）、経営困難に陥ったイギリスのチェーンレストラン、Little Chefのメニューを改善するというもの。世界に名だたるシェフが、イギリス庶民のファミレスの新メニュー作りに奮闘する姿は見甲斐がある。あいにく今日は、彼の創造性は空回りで終わってしまったが。。。21日、22日の続編に期待。

26日は、ライター／TVキャスター／食の活動家である、Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall（青服真ん中の眼鏡の人）が、イギリス最大のスーパー・Tesco（テスコ）に、「鶏の権利」の尊重を求める「Chicken, Hugh and Tesco Too」。29日は、日本でも人気ジェイミー・オリヴァー（Jamie Oliver）が、イギリスにおいて、豚がどう生き、どうやって死んで豚肉、ハム、ベーコンとなって食卓に並ぶか、そしてどうイギリスの養豚業者をサポートするかを問う「Jamie Saves Our Bacon」。スコットランド出身で、テレビでも大活躍のミシュラン星シェフ、ゴードン・ラムゼイ（Gordon Ramsay）が、イギリスのレストランオーナーに、信用収縮（Credit Crunch）を乗り切るアドバイスを与える「Ramsay’s Great British Nightmare」が放送予定。

正直に言うと、ヘストン・ブルーメンタールを除いた３人は、テレビにしょっちゅう登場するので、かなり食傷気味。

Today Channel 4‘s program — The Great Brisith Food Fight — started. In this program, 4 British celebrity chefs tackle the real issues related to food in Britain. From today, til the 21st, Michelin-starred chef and owner of ‘The Fat Duck‘, Heston Blumenthal tries to restore the fortunes of troubled Britain’s chain restaurants Little Chef. In this episode, his culinary creativity didn’t bear fruit to break the barrier, but it was fun to see a great chef struggling with the limitation of fast food restaurant — such as cost and time. Will see what will happen in the next 2 episodes.

On 26th January, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall tries to persuade the biggest supermarket chain Tesco to join his chicken revolution, in the ‘Chicken, Hugh and Tesco Too’. On 29th, ‘The Naked Chef Jamie Oliver discovers the truth about how pigs live and die to put pork, ham, and bacon, and what we can do to support British pig farmers, on ‘Jamie Saves Our Bacon‘. On 30th, in ‘Ramsay’s Great British Nightmare‘, footballer-turned-Michelin star chef Gordon Ramsay gives an advice to British restauranteurs on how to beat credit crunch and grow their business, with his infamous ‘f’ word.

To be honest, except Heston Blumenthal, I saw so many programs with other 3 chefs, and am a bit fed up with them…
