ちょっとショッキングなこの新聞広告。これは、イギリス保健省(Department of Health)がスポンサーの「CONDOM essential wear」の、コンドーム使用推進キャンペーンの一環。イギリスでは、若者を中心に性感染症が急増している。性感染症で最もポピュラーなクラミジアは、イングランドで、1997年から2倍増だそうだ。特に伸びが高いのが、16歳〜24歳。10代の妊娠率も、西欧諸国の中で一番高い。

イギリスでは、このような政府による啓蒙広告が多い。このような政府による干渉は、時に「Nanny state(過保護国家)」と揶揄される。でも、このような政府スポンサーの広告には、よく出来たものも多いので、おいおい面白そうなものをご紹介していきます。

This eye-catching newspaper ad is a part of ‘CONDOM essential wear‘ campaign, which is promoting the use of condoms, sponsored by Department of Health. In the UK, Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have been rising continually since the 1990s. Chlamydia, the most popular type of STIs, has more than doubled since 1997 – especially the rise is significant among 16 to 24 years old. Also the teenage pregnancy in England is the highest among western European countries.

You see a government-sponcered ad all the time – that is one of the reason why often UK is called ‘Nanny State‘. But some of the public advertising campaigns are well done and nicely designed. I will pick up some of the ad campaign in the future in this blog.
