旧発電所で、２０００年にヘルツォーク&ド・ムーロンによって生まれ変わったイギリスの新名所、Tate Modern（テート・モダン）近現代美術館で、「Rodchenko & Popova（ロトチェンコとポポーワ）」展が始まった。「Rodchenko & Popova」展は、ロシア構成主義の主要アーティストである、アレクサンドル・ロトチェンコとリューボフ・ポポーワの二人にスポットを当て、１２室にわたって、絵画、グラフィック作品、建築、彫刻、広告／グラフィック・デザイン、日常生活のデザイン（家具、食器、服、日用品等）、プロパガンダ／教育ポスター、テキスタイル、衣装、シアターデザイン等を網羅した、見がいのある展覧会だ。私は、ロトチェンコの大胆なアングルの写真や斬新なグラフィック・デザインのファンで、昨年２月にもHayward Gallery（ヘイワード・ギャラリー）で開催されたロトチェンコ展にも行った。これも良い展覧会だったが、スペースを生かした大規模な展示がテート・モダンの強みだ。デザインに興味がある人はぜひ見に行ってみて下さい。
The new exhibition, ‘Rodchenko & Popova‘ at the Tate Modern started today. Tate Modern, former power wtation and converted by architects Herzog & de Meuron, is a national museum of international modern art, located on the southbank of Thames river. In this thorough exhibition, the works of two important artists of Russian Constructivism, Lyubov Popova and Aleksandr Rodchenko, are presented in 12 rooms, including paintings, graphic works, architecture, sculpture, advertising and graphic design, everyday life objects, propaganda and educational posters, textiles and costumes, theatre, and cinema etc. I am a fan of Rodchenko’s photography with dynamic angles and radical graphic design. We went to a Rodchenko exhibition at the Hayward Gallery as well. It was a good exhibition too, but Tate Modern has an advantage in its big space, which make it possible to have a large scale exhibition. Must-see if you are interested in design.
