Fernandez & Wells Cafe @ SOHO

ここ数日で、ロンドンはずいぶん春めいてきた。気温は１５度程度まで上がり、どんよりした日の多いロンドンにしては、珍しくお天気もよい。SOHOにある、Fernandez & Wells（フェルナンデス＆ウェルズ）は、そんな日にぴったりの気持ちのいいカフェ。Fernandez & Wellsには、Food & Wine BarとCoffee Barの２店あり、角を曲がってすぐの近所同士（写真はCoffee Bar）。どちらも小さく、いつも賑わっていて、席を確保するのが一苦労だ。座ってゆっくりするなら、Coffee Barの方へ。スペイン産のチョリソやイベリコ豚のハム、イタリア産生ハム（Prosciutto/プロシュット）等、ヨーロッパ各地から厳選して集められたハムやチーズ等を使ったサンドイッチは、病み付きになる味。使用しているパンも、外はぱりっと、中はしっとりしていて、美味しい。ロンドンの有名店、Monmouth Coffee Companyから仕入れているコーヒーも絶品で、2007年にはロンドンの情報誌Time OutのEating & Drinking Awards（飲食店賞）、「ベスト・コーヒー・バー」に選ばれている。リージェント・ストリートやオックスフォード・ストリート、カーナビー・ストリートから近いので、ウェスト・エンドでのショッピングの合間のランチや休憩にぴったりの場所です。

This week it is getting warmer (today it was up to 15ºc and it seems that the spring finally has come! It’s been sort of sunny (not like clear blue sky as in Spain, though), which is rare in London. Fernandez & Wells cafe in SOHO is a pleasant and perfect place for the nice day. Fernandez & Wells has 2 cafes nearby, Food & Wine Bar and Coffee Bar, just few steps around the corner (photo above is the Coffee Bar). Both places are very small and hard to get a seat, but if you want to sit and relax, the Coffee Bar is better. You will get addicted to their sandwich with selected cured ham and cheese from Europe, such as Iberico ham and chorizo from Spain or Italian Parma ham (prosciutto). The bread is crusty outside and chewy inside, and very good as well. Their coffee, supplied by the famous Monmouth Coffee Company, is superb. Fernandez & Wells won the ‘Best Coffee Bar‘ category at the Time Out Eating & Drinking Awards in 2007. It’s a perfect place for lunch or coffee during your shopping, as it’s very close to Regent street, Oxford street, and Carnaby Street.
