25億ポンドをかけてロンドン東部のStratford（ストラトフォード）の500エーカーのオリンピック用地に建設中のオリンピック・パークは、総観客席数10万を誇り、敷地内にはヨーロッパ最大のショッピングセンター「Westfield」もオープンする。オリンピック・スタジアムは、2014-15年シーズンより、プレミアリーグのウェストハム・ユナイテッドのホームスタジアムとして使用される予定。建設費3億ポンドのアクアティクス・センターは、世界的建築家のザハ・ハディッドがデザイン。アニッシュ・カプーアがデザインした高さ115mの展望タワー「Arcelormittal Orbit」は、イギリスで最も金持ちの、ミッタル・スチールCEO・ラクシュミー・ミッタルが、1910万ポンドの総工費のうち1600万ポンドを支払うとのこと。太っ腹！大ロンドン庁によると、ジェットコースターの赤いレールが絡まってしまったようなこの奇妙な形のタワー展望台から、オリンピックパーク全体とロンドンのスカイラインが見渡せるという。

This steel tower, looking like twisted red jet coaster rails, will offer “unparalleled views of the entire Olympic Park and London’s skyline”, according to the Greater London Authority.
