トッテナム・コート・ロードエリアで人気のオーストラリアン・カフェ・Lantanaの姉妹店、Salvation Janeが、オールド・ストリートにオープンした（Pret A Mangerの隣）。1800年代にJane Pattersonというイギリス人移民によってオーストラリアにもたらされた植物、「Salvation Jane（学名エキウム・プランタギネウム、和名は車前紫）」ちなんで名付けられた。この雑草は、丈夫で乾燥に強く、深刻な干ばつが襲った時これを家畜に与えてその命を守ったため、「Salvation Jane（救世主ジェーン）」と呼ばれるようになったそうだ。しかし、ある種の動物が食べ過ぎると命を落とすこともあるため、「Patterson’s Curse（パターソンの呪い）」とも呼ばれる。
オージー気質を反映した、カジュアルでリラックスした雰囲気のこのカフェ、All Day Diningで、朝食、ブランチ、ランチ、そして夜はタパス風の小皿料理と、開店時間中いつでも食事ができるので、オールド・ストリートにたむろする不規則な職務形態のクリエーターたちのニーズにもピッタリ。Lantana同様、料理もコーヒーもGood。うちから近いので嬉しい。
A sister café to a popular Australian café Lantana in Tottenham Court Road area, Salvation Jane opened in Old Street (next to Pret A Manger) quite recently. Its rather odd name comes from a flowering plant, Echium plantagineum, that was brought to Australia in the 1800s by an English immigrant named Jane Patterson. “Salvation Jane” comes from the fact that this Echium saved many of the grazing pastures as a source of food in times of drought. It is also known as Patterson’s Curse because certain livestock can be killed if it eats too much.
This laid-back café, reflecting Aussie spirit, open 7 days a week and offers all day dining; breakfast, brunch, lunch, and evening share plates and drinks. Perfect place for creators hanging around Old Street with flexible working hours, and its food & coffee is good like Lantana. It is great for us as well, as it is located in walking distance!
