Made in Britain: Fentimans’ Curiosity Cola

最近、MがはまっているFentimans社の「Curiosity Cola（キュリオシティ・コーラ）」。ラベルには「BOTANICALLY BREWED（植物学的に調合された）」とある。コーラは本来「Health Drink（健康飲料）」として売られ、人々からは好奇の目で見られていたことが、「Curiosity Cola」のネーミングの由来だ。コーラの原点に戻って、Fermented Ginger Root Extract（発酵ショウガ根抽出液）、Catuaba Extract（カトゥアバエキス）、Guarana extracts（ガラナエキス）等、原料にさまざまな植物抽出物を使って造られている、「ナチュラル」なコーラだ。味の方は、いわゆるコーラの味だが、人工的な味のコカ・コーラに比べて、フルーツやスパイスがかすかに感じられる、マイルドな口当たり。まあコーラなので甘いけれど、甘ったるさがなく、意外にすっきりしている。コカ・コーラより値段が高く、高級スーパーやこだわりのあるカフェ等でしか買えないが、Mは、このキュリオシティ・コーラは美味しくてユニークだからと、最近は見かける度に購入している。でも、砂糖が31.9gも入っているので、飲み過ぎはいけないと分かってはいるみたいだけど。

Recently M is addicted to Fentimans‘ “Curiosity Cola“. You can see “BOTANICALLY BREWED” on its label. The name “Curiosity Cola” comes from the fact that “Colas were first sold as ‘Health Drinks’ and were viewed with curiosity by the public”. Based on a traditional recipe, “Curiosity Cola” is a fermented botanical drink with herbal extracts such as Fermented Ginger Root, Catuaba and Guarana extracts. The taste is of cola, but more rich with a flavor of fruits and spices, in compare to Coca-Cola with more artificial taste. Yes it is sweet, as it’s cola, but it is not too sweet and pretty refreshing. You can buy only at selected stores and cafes, as it is more expensive than Coca-Cola, but M think this ‘cola’ is tasty and unique, and buys every time he sees it. However he is aware of a danger of sugar (contains 31.9g in 1 bottle), and he shouldn’t drink it too much…
