Cortadoの入居しているGainsborough Studiosは、ゴーモン＝ブリティッシュ・ピクチャーの姉妹会社で、かのアルフレッド・ヒッチコックも作品を撮影したという映画会社・Gainsborough Pictures（ゲインズボロ映画）の撮影スタジオがあった場所。建物自体は、Great Northern & City Railwayというムーアゲート駅とフィンズベリー・パーク駅を結ぶ鉄道のための発電所として1900年頃に建てられ、後に改装され、1924〜1951年の間、映画撮影スタジオとして使われていた。スタジオは2002年に取り壊され、2004年に居住用アパートに生まれ変わった。
往年の映画スタジオを記念して、アパートの中庭には、巨大なヒッチコックの頭像がでーんと置かれているのだが（BBC）、私の目には、どう見ても仏様にしか見えない。。。
Gainsborough Studios where Cortado is housed, is used be a film studio of Gainsborough Pictures, which was a sister company to the Gaumont British and where Alfred Hitchcock made his first films. Built as a power station for the Great Northern & City Railway in about 1900, it was later converted to movie studios which had been active between 1924 and 1951. Then the studios were demolished in 2002, and residential flats were built on the site in 2004.
Commemorating this former film studios, the gigantic head of Hitchcock is placed in the courtyard of the complex (BBC). But to my eyes, this looks more like grumpy Buddha, rather than Hitchcock…
