Central St Gilesに入っているブラジリアン・レストラン・Cabana（カバナ）に行った。オリンピック・サイトにあるWestfield Stratford Cityに第一号店があり、ここは第二号店。側面ガラスに覆われた、陽当たりのいい明るい店内に入ると、大きなオープンキッチンが見える。ここのメニューは、Skewers（ブラジル風串焼きバーベキュー・シュラスコ）とブラジルのストリートフード（小皿料理）、サラダ、サイドディッシュ、そして1950年代にサンパオロで二人のシリア人兄弟が始めたというシリアの平パンを使った「Beirut」というサンドイッチ等々。
注文したのは、Chimichurri Black Gold Steak（チミチュリ・ソース味のステーキ113.4g：£5.95）、Chilli Cumin Lamb Fillet（チリとクミンで味付けしたラム肉フィレ113.4g：£5.95）のSkewer串焼き２品と、Black bean soup shot（黒豆のスープ£2.95）、Biro-Biro rice （ガーリック、ハーブ、ネギ、エシャロット入り炒めご飯£2.85）、そしてCassava chips（キャッサバのフライ£3.45）の計５品（写真上・写真）。Skewerは２皿とも、お肉も柔らかくて味つけもいい。ライス、スープ、キャッサバも美味しい、んだけれども、全体的に量が少ない。メニューはオンス表記だったので、実際に肉を見るまでどのくらいの量が分からなかった。黒豆のスープなんて、お子様用？と思うような小さなカップ入り。ウェイトレスのお姉さんから、お肉のお代わりが必要ならこれを裏返して、ってコースターのようなものを渡されたが、Rodizio Ricoという食べ放題で人気のブラジリアン・チェーンと違い、追加オーダーになるという（まあ値段的に仕方ないけれど）。ということは、レストラン側も、これじゃ全然足らないことを知っていて量設定をした、確信犯なのか。Mはもう１皿欲しいとごねたけど、私は何となく嵌められたような気がして悔しいので、意地で追加は頼まず。結局Mが全然物足りないというので、カフェに移動してケーキでお腹を誤摩化したのだった。
Cabana is a Brazilian barbecue restaurant at Central St Giles. This is their second venue after Westfield Stratford City in Olympic site. The restaurant is spacious and lots of light coming through all-glass walls, and there is a big open kitchen on one side. Their menu consists of skewers, Brazilian street food (small dishes), salad, side dishes, and ‘Beirut’, Syrian flatbread sandwich invented in Sao Paulo in the 1950’s by two Syrian brothers.
We ordered total of 5 dishes (photo above & photo); Chimichurri Black Gold Steak (4oz/113.4g £5.95), Chilli Cumin Lamb Fillet (4oz/113.4g £5.95), Black bean soup shot (£2.95), Biro-Biro rice (£2.85) and Cassava chips (£3.45). The skewers meat were both succulent, and all the dishes passed our criteria. However, the portion was too small and failed to fill up M’s empty stomach. The menu is written in ounce which I still don’t know how to convert, and we had no clue how much until we actually saw the dishes. Black bean soup was literally ‘shot’, served in kid’s portion. A friendly waitress gave us a coaster to flip if we need more meat, but this would be a new order, not like popular Rodizio Rico with all-you-can-eat barbecue. It is understandable considering the price, but I believe the restaurant know that the amount is not enough and and is sure people have to order more! I was too upset about their ‘conspiracy’ and didn’t want to order more, fighting with M who wanted to, and we ended up going another café to satisfy M’s stomach…
