Visit London Christmas Competitions

ロンドン公式ウェブサイト・Visit London（日本語ページあり）が、Advent Calendar（アドベント・カレンダー）方式に、12月1日から25日まで日替わりで、ホテル宿泊やシアターチケット、ショッピング・バウチャー等が当たる懸賞を実施中。懸賞・プレゼント応募を見逃せない私は、毎日チェックしては、めぼしいプレゼントにクリック応募している。サイトのキュートなイラストを描いたのは、St Martin’s College出身のTina Mansuwanさん。バンコクやブルネイ、ストックホルム、ロンドンと様々な街で育ち、現在はバンコク在住とのこと。ロシアのフォークアートや日本のグラフィックスに影響を受けたそうで、そのポップで可愛いイラストは、確かに日本人が好きそう。

残念ながら懸賞への応募資格はイギリス在住者に限られているけれど、このウェブサイトで、ロンドンのクリスマス気分をちょっと味わってみては？

London’s official guide website Visit London is running a virtual advent calendar from 1 – 25 December, with a daily prize such as theatre tickets, overnight hotel stays and shopping experiences. I am the person who can’t miss prizes and competitions, and everyday I check the site and click & apply a prize I fancy. The illustration for the advent calendar is designed by Tina Mansuwan, a graduate of St Martin’s College who grew up in Bangkok, Brunei, Stockholm and London. Now back in Bangkok, she is inspired by Central Asian and Russian folk art and Japanese graphics – I thought this cute & pop illustration is typical of what Japanese girls like.

Unfortunately the competitions is open to UK residents only, but why not to enjoy a little bit of London’s Christmas atmosphere by visiting the site?

Cheshire Street @ off Brick Lane

別名バングラタウンと呼ばれ、南はバングラデシュ料理のレストランが軒を連ねるカレー通り、北はヒップなバーやレストラン、カフェ、ブティック、ギャラリーなどが集まる、Brick Lane（ブリック・レーン）。観光客も多く、すっかり東ロンドンの観光名所となっているが、その中ほどにあるCheshire Streetを東に入ると、インテリアや洒落た日用品、ジュエリー、ヴィンテージのブティックなど、センスのいい独立系のショップが並んでいる。平日は人影もまばらなこの通り、週末ともなると、他では手に入らないオリジナル品、ユニークなものを求める人たちでごった返す。

Brick Lane has established its name as a major tourist destination in East London. Known as Banglatown, the south half of the street is occupied by Bangladesh curry restaurants, and the north half with hip bars, restaurants, cafés, shops and galleries attract trendy young people. A little street off the midst of Brick Lane to the East, Cheshire Street is home to independent shops selling interior & home products, jewelry, vintage clothing, and other bric-a-brac. This quiet street bustles on weekend with people looking for something original and unique that is hard to find anywhere else.

既にクリスマス商戦も始まっている今日この頃、Cheshire Streetにあるお店が参加して、12月2日と9日の木曜日の2日間、午後6時から9時まで「Late Night Christmas Shopping Evenings」を行うそう。飲み物も提供されるみたいなので、時間があれば是非。参加するお店は↓の通り。

Many stores have already decorated for Christmas in London, and a group of Cheshire street stores also organizes an annual late night Christmas shopping evenings on two Thursdays on December 2nd and 9th, from 6pm to 9pm. その中の一軒、レトロでセンスのいい日用品を扱い、メディアにもよく登場するお店・「Labour and Wait」は、元の店から徒歩5分程のRedchurch Street（Allpress, Albion Café, Franzé & Evansと同じ通り）に、一回り大きな店をオープンさせた 。

One of the shops on Cheshire street, “Labour and Wait” opened a new bigger shop on Redchurch Street (same street of Allpress, Albion Café, Franzé & Evans), about 5 minutes walk from the original location.

SMUG Lifestyle Store @ Camden Passage

SMUGは、エンジェルの有名なアンティーク・ストリート、カムデン・パッセージにある小さなお店。前は通ったことがあるのだけれど、今日、Daily Candyのメールマガジンで紹介されたのを機に、行ってみた。センス良く飾られた、白やパステルカラーのレトロな家具が並ぶ2フロアの店内には、手作りのぬいぐるみ、クッション、ティータオル（洗い物を拭く布巾）、そしてミッドセンチュリーの食器類やグラス等、オーナーで、インテリア／グラフィック・デザイナーのLizzie EvansがデザインしたSMUGブランドや、自身がセレクトした、女性が好きそうなものが所狭しと並んでいる。今日は取りあえず、素敵なデザインのオリジナルカード（1枚£2.50）を2枚買った。自分用にはちょっと値段が高いかな、と思うものもあるけれど、ちょっと気の利いたプレゼントを探すのに使えそう。

ちなみにDaily Candyは、お店やレストラン、イベント、セールなど、タウン情報を発信するウェブサービスで、ニューヨークやロス等アメリカの主要11都市の他、ロンドン版がある。サイトに登録、好きな都市を選ぶと、月曜から金曜日まで毎日メールマガジンが届く。ロンドン情報を手に入れるのにとても便利なサイト。

SMUG is a cosy lifestyle store on Camden Passage, a famous antique street in Angel. I passed by some times, but I went inside for the first time, as Daily Candy talked about the store today. Inside of 2-floor store, chicly decorated with retro furniture in white or pastel colors, is full of goodies that women love – handmade soft animals, cushions, tea towels, mid-century glassware and kitchenware etc – designed or carefully selected by the owner and interior/graphic designer Lizzie Evans. I bought two cute cards today (£2.50@). Though some of the products are bit pricy for myself, it is a great place to find an unique and sophisticated present for your loved ones.

Daily Candy is a web service, delivering what’s going on in the city of your choice – restaurants, stores, services, events, sale and everything– via daily e-mail newsletter and its website. Currently the service covers 11 major US cities such as New York and LA, as well as London, the only city outside USA. Daily Candy is very useful for me o get an idea for my blog, as well as to look for a nice place to hang out.
