今日、言わずと知れたポール・マッカートニーの娘で人気ファッション・デザイナーのステラ・マッカートニーがデザインした、ロンドン・オリンピックのアディダス製イギリス代表公式ユニフォームが公開された。ユニオン・ジャックをモチーフにしたスタイリッシュなデザインのユニフォーム、早速「too blue」との批判が続出。ご存知のように、イギリス国旗は赤白青の三色を使用。ユニフォームの他の部分やソックス、靴に赤色が使われているが、肝心の国旗デザインは青白のみ、まるでスコットランドの国旗のようだという声が多い（写真中）。多くの人も指摘している、イギリスのリアリティTV番組・Xファクターのロゴに似た男性アスリートのウェスト周り（写真上の右側）と、ジャケットのリボンベルト（写真中の両端）は？？だが、過去7回のイギリス代表ユニフォームと比べても、今回の日本代表ユニフォームと比べても洗練されてると思う。イギリス人は何でもかんでも批判する癖があるから仕方ないけど。

The London 2012 Olympic uniforms for GB team, designed by British fashion designer Stella McCartney (a daughter of Paul McCartney) for Adidas, is unveiled today. However, this stylish design with Union Jack motif comes under fire as ‘too blue’. As you know, Union Jack consists of three colours; blue, white, and red. Though Stella uses red in some parts of the uniforms, socks, and shoes (2nd photo), red is apparently missing from the flag part, and it looks more ‘Scottish’. British likes to criticise everything, but I think it is quite cool in compare to past seven games (bottom photo) and Japanese team uniform for London 2012; except reality TV show X-factor‘s  logo around the waist of male athlete (right on the 1st photo), like many others pointed out, and a ribbon belt for the women’s jacket which is unnecessary and unpractical (both ends on the 2nd photo).

New Look for BBC 2012

ロンドン・オリンピック開催まで200日を切った（正確に言うと192日）。Tube（ロンドン地下鉄）各駅やBlackfriars（ブラックフライアーズ）駅、 Farrindon（ファリンドン）駅などの鉄道駅の改装といったインフラの整備や、様々な建設工事がロンドン市内のあちこちで急ピッチで進められており、オリンピックが近づいていることを感じさせる。もっともロンドンの住人は、犬も歩けば棒に当たるじゃないけれど、行く先々で遭遇する工事現場の騒音や通行止め、道幅減少などに閉口しているけれど。

そして、イギリスの国営放送BBCが去年7月に立ち上げたオリンピック特集ウェブサイト・BBC 2012もこの度お化粧直しされた。このサイトは、ニュース、スポーツ、ドラマ、アート、カルチャー、コメディ、交通情報や役立つ情報など、BBCのオンライン、テレビ、ラジオのオリンピック関連コンテンツ（ライブ、ビデオ、オーディオ、写真、インタビュー、裏話など）が一堂に集められているので、ロンドン・オリンピック委員会のLondon 2012とともに、オリンピックや関連イベントの情報収集に便利かも。→詳細はBBCブログで

It is less than 200 days (precisely saying, 192 days) to go til London Olympic 2012, and all kinds of constructions and building works, including maintenance works of some tube stations and revamping rail stations such as Blackfriars station and Farrindon station, now seem to be speeding up and this make us feel the Olympic is coming. Exciting, though many Londoners complain the noise, reduced road width and diversion caused by never-ending works that we encounter every corner of the city.

BBC, British national broadcaster that most of you already know, has changed the look of BBC 2012, a website launched last July, dedicated to London Olympic. The site showcases a variety of contents arising from the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, ie. news, sport, drama, arts, culture, comedy, traffics as well as other useful info, gathered from BBC’s online, television and radio, in the form of live coverage, video and audio clips, background stories, pictures and cast interviews. London’s One Room Hotel: “A Room for London” Art Project @ Southbank Centre

Southbank Centre（サウスバンク・センター）の上に乗っかった船。これは、London 2012 Festivalの一環のアートプロジェクト「A Room for London」、テムズ川を見下ろす一部屋だけのホテル。London 2012 Festivalは、北京オリンピック終了後の2008年9月より4年間に渡って行われている文化芸術プログラム「Cultural Olympiad（カルチュラル・オリンピアード）」のハイライトとして、6月21日から9月9日まで、ロンドン・オリンピックの開催中、無料コンサートやアート展など、約1000ものパフォーマンスやイベントが催される他、フェスティバル前にも様々なカウントダウンイベントが行われる予定。

この「A Room for London」は、ジョゼフ・コンラッドの1899年出版の小説「Heart of Darkness（闇の奥）」に出てくる、テムズ川を出発しアフリカのコンゴに至る旅に使われたriverboat（川船）にインスピレーションを得て、David Kohn ArchitectsとアーティストのFiona Bannerが制作した。一晩限り、二人まで宿泊可能で宿泊料は£120〜、公的プロジェクトだからか、メディアも注目する期間限定の特別ホテルなのに、値段はかなり控えめ。あいにく昨年9月9日に始まった1〜6月の予約は開始12分で満室になったけれど、7〜12月の予約は来週19日正午に始まる。メディアでも取り上げられているので応募多数と予測されるけれど、想い出作りに、運試しに申し込んでみるのもいいかも。

A classic boat appeared on the top of Southbank Centre, overlooking the river Thames – this is an arts project “A Room for London” and it is a part of the London 2012 Festival. The London 2012 Festival is a huge cultural celebration, coinciding with the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London, and a culmination of the a four-year programme of cultural events “Cultural Olympiad“, started in 2008 just after Beijing Olympic. From June 21 to September 9, 2012, there will be 1,000 performances and events such as free concerts and art exhibitions, as well as countdown events before the Festival opens.

Inspired by the riverboat captained by Joseph Conrad while in the Congo in 1890, later recreated in his novel Heart of Darkness, David Kohn Architects and artist Fiona Banner created this unique art project. General public can rent out this space for £120〜 for up to two people for one night only. The price is quite reasonable with the premium to stay at the special art project with  limited period and public attention – probably because it is a public event for everybody. Unfortunately the riverboat is sold out during January–June, just 12 minutes after going live on September 8th last year, but bookings for the period of July to December will go on sale online at 12pm on January 19 next week. Payment Time for London Olympic Tickets

4月26日に締め切ったロンドン・オリンピックのチケットの抽選が終わり（参考エントリー）、今日からチケットの代金の回収が始まった。660万枚のチケットに、180万人計2,000万枚以上の申し込みがあったという。6月10日までに当選者の登録口座からチケット代金が引き落とされ、6月24日までには当選者に連絡が来る予定。

私の場合は少額申し込みだからいいけれど、チケットの当落も金額も、チャージされる日さえも分からいまま、突然課金されるそう。たくさんのチケットを申し込んだ人は、口座明細を見るの、さぞかし不安だろうな。申し込み者を全く考慮していない、ヒドいシステムだと批判も多い。全く同感。

The London Olympic committee has started to take payment for tickets which was deadlined on April 16 (related entry), after all ballots have been completed. About 1.8 million people made more than 20 million applications for the 6.6 million tickets. Winners will see the charge on their registered accounts from today May 16 until June 10, and will be notified which tickets they win sometime before June 24.

I applied only few cheap tickets and don’t mind to be charged, but people who applied many may be scared to death to see their creditcard or bank statements, without being informed in advance what kind of tickets they win, and how much and exactly when will be charged… Media again criticises the system is not considerate to applicants, and I completely agree that it is a bit annoying.

2012 Olympic Tickets Application Deadline

連日晴れマークで真夏並みの暑さだったイースター・ホリデーが終わり、いつものように、白い空に肌寒いロンドンに戻った。

本日付のニュースによると、今日は6週間に渡る2012年ロンドン・オリンピックのチケット申し込み期間の最終日で、イースターホリデーの先週末から駆け込み需要が殺到しているのだそう。特に現場で観たいスポーツなどはないのだが、私たちも面白半分に、開幕式と閉幕式にウェブサイトから応募してみた（写真下。参照番号2桁は念のため黒塗り）。競争率が高すぎて当たらないと思うけれど、ダメもとで。

17日間の会期に行われる26種目650セッションにのぼるチケットの価格は、2012年にちなみ、最高価格が£2,012で最低価格が£20.12。人気の競技・イベントは、開幕・閉幕式、陸上、水泳、ボート、自転車競技（最後2つはイギリスの得意種目）など。マイナーな競技でも決勝は高い需要があるという。660万枚のチケットは、需要が供給を上回った場合は抽選で割り当てられ、申し込みをした人たちには、6月24日までに当否の連絡がくる予定。

何事にもシビアな目を持つイギリス人のこと、もちろん批判もある。各価格帯に割り当てられたチケット数は公表されておらず、チケット確保のため、必要数以上申し込んでいる人もいるという。当選したらクレジットカード（スポンサーであるVISAカードのみ使用可）から自動引き落とし。不要なチケットの払い戻しは来年まで待たないといけない。ツイッターには、「全てのチケットが当たったら破産する」とのつぶやきが溢れているそうだ。

Hot and sunny Easter Holiday is over now, and London gets back to normal cool spring with usual white sky.

According to today’s news, the six-week application period for 2012 London Olympic tickets will be over at the end of today, and there has been a last minute surge in ticket sales since last Easter weekend. We don’t have any game in mind to see live, but applied the tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies via London 2012 official website, for fun (photo below. I blackened 2 digits for safety). Probably we won’t get it as demand is extremely high, but just trying.

6.6million tickets are available for 650 sessions across 26 sports and 17 days, with prices from £20.12 to £2,012, to be associated with year 2012. Tickets on strong demand are for ceremonies, athletics, swimming, rowing and track cycling (last two are UK’s strongholds). However,  there has also been heavy demand for finals for less popular events. Applications for over-subscribed events will go into a ballot, and applicants will be told whether or not they are successful by June 24.

However, nothing is criticism-free in UK. There is no guidelines available about how many tickets are allocated in each price band, and people apply more than they want to secure the tickets. Successful applicants will be charged on their registered credit cards (only VISA, the sponsor of the olympic) after ballot, but can’t return unwanted tickets to the organisers until next year. There are full of comments on Twitter from such people worrying that they would be in a financial trouble if they would win all the tickets they applied. Good luck to them…
