Lexington Streetにある人気カフェ・Fernandez & Wellsの数軒隣に、キュートなフレンチ・カフェ、Café Gourmand（カフェ・グルマン）がオープンした。ショーケースの前にカウンター席数席、そして奥にカウンター席数席と細長いシェア用テーブルがあるのみ。うぐいす色の壁に裸電球が天井から吊り下げられたシンプルな店内は、狭いけれど寛げる空間に仕上がっている。ショーケースには、カスレやコッコーヴァン、キッシュ、フレンチオニオンスープなど、種類は多くないけれど典型的なフレンチのお惣菜が並ぶ。デザートは、「Gourmand」と名付けられた3種のミニミニサイズデザート（この日はクレームブリュレ、チョコレートムース、レモンケーキ）＋コーヒーまたは紅茶がついて£6というセット（個別注文も可）や、アップルのスライスが載ったタルトなど。コーヒー類は何故か、カフェオレなどフレンチではなく、Flat Whiteやカプチーノやエスプレッソなどのイタリアンコーヒーのみ。
向かいにあるチェーン店のPret a Mangerに比べると値段は高いけれど（二人でランチ２品、スープ１皿、ペリエ２缶、ダブルエスプレッソ、紅茶、ミニクレームブリュレを注文、計£23.5）、クオリティは高く、値段分の価値あり。
Café Gourmand（ウェブサイトは見つけられず / I couldn’t find their website） 53 Lexington Street, Soho, London, W1FOn Lexington Street, few steps from the popular café Fernandez & Wells, new French café, Café Gourmand opened recently. This cozy place has few stools in front of the counter and some more on the back as well as one small sharing table only. The interior is simple and relaxing, and is chicly decorated with smokey light green walls and hanging light bulbs. You can see good looking French comfort foods through its windows and on the counter, such as cassoulet, quiche, Coq au Vin and French onion soup. For deserts, they have a set of three teeny-tiny sweets “Gourmand” (Crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, lemon cake on the day) plus coffe or tea for £6, or you can order individually if you want have only one, as well as good size treat such as tart with sliced apple on the top (forgot how to call it). Their coffees, for some reason, are the only things not French, and Italian coffee(espresso, cappuccino etc) or trendy Flat White are served.
The food & drinks here is more pricey in compare with Pret a Manger in front of it (we paid total of £23.5 for two lunch dishes, one soup, two perrier, double espresso, tea, and one mini Crème brûlée), but the quality is definitely higher, and you can get what you pay. And the place is very charming, as well as the French staffs :-)
