Pizza al Taglio @ Malletti Clerkenwell

Malletti Clerkenwell, 174-176 Clerkenwell Rd, EC1R 5DD (020 7713 8665) / Chancery Lane tube or bus 19, 38, 55
Open 11am-4.30pm Mon-Fri.

Our favorite Pizza Al Taglio shop, Malletti. Pizza al Taglio is popular Italian style pizza by the slice, and is uncommon in UK (you can also eat it at Princi). You can take it away, or eat-in at the counter seats on the ground floor –next to large windows — or at the tables downstairs, with no windows. Malletti first opened in SOHO. The second shop on Clerkenwell Road is our regular place. The Clerkenwell used to be the area where a lot of Italian immingrants lived, and there is still an Italian church in the heart of Clerkenwell.

The pizza, warmed up again in the oven (not in the microwave with mushy results) after they get an order, is crunchy, delicious and addictive! My fav is the pizza with potato mash, and M’s favorite is the pizza with spicy salami. We always avoid lunch time (from 1 to 2 pm — it’s crazy) and go just before closing time. It is not busy before closing, so we often chat with friendly staff, and if you are lucky, you can get something extra. In the picture above is M’s Artichoke and spinach pizza.
